I am a freelance illustrator from Austin Texas. Like most illustrators, I can't remember a time when I didn't love to draw. Some of my early art even earned me a trip to the school counselor's office (sorry mom and dad!). When I was 10 years old I toured the animation studios at Disneyland to see the process of making the feature film, the Lion King. I was in awe of the idea that you could draw for a living and have dreamed of making art for children ever since.
I completed the Texas Creative sequence at the University of Texas at Austin and I have a B.S. in Advertising. During the 10 years I spent working in graphic design, I was always finding ways to incorporate illustration into projects and was constantly wishing I could spend more of my time drawing and painting. Meanwhile, we were reading a lot of picture books with my son and I began to notice that even though we were reading them at night, I was thinking about them all day long. Finally, in September of 2015, after my youngest son was born, and I found myself in a position to focus on children's book illustration.
A few months later I registered for my first SCBWI Austin conference and over the next few weeks I got really good at holding a nursing baby with one arm while I was busy drawing with the other one. I finished five illustrations for my portfolio in time for the conference and to my surprise, I was chosen for the Emerging Voice Illustrator Mentorship with Marsha Riti.
Today, I am a proud member of the Puddle Jump Collective and the Big Dillustrators Critique group. When I'm not drawing and dreaming up new story ideas and obsessing over what I can learn next on the internet, you will find me perfecting my handstand (I’m a 200-hour certified power yoga instructor), cooking up new recipes, and spending time with my husband, two little boys and our big brown dog.
